I blogged about this on one of my other blogs but it's really a big issue for me so I'm going to blog about it again. I keep finding ways to waste time. Not to keep from writing but to keep from editing and submitting. I like writing. Love it in fact. But when it comes to the business side, not so much.
I want to write and I want to network and I want to make video trailers. But I don't want to edit and I don't want to write query letters and synopses. Because I'm a lazy bum. But you can't really work as a writer if you aren't willing to do the work. And the sad part that most industry outsiders don't know is that the writing of the novel is the easy part for most of us. It's the other stuff that sucks.
But I've got this close to the time for New Year's resolutions theory. And that theory is that next year I'm going to buckle down and just get to the business stuff without having to force myself. This isn't actually true but I think that my real goal will be just to actually get around to forcing myself.
It shouldn't be that hard. I force myself to do stuff I don't want to do everyday. It's just that no one is going to call me on not editing a story they don't even know about. More's the pity too. I wish that someone would.
Alas, I'm going to have to call myself on this one. And I'm so not good at that.
How do you fare in the edits department? Am I the only bum here?
Song Of The Day--Into the Night, Santana and Chad Kroeger. Love from above will save him from hell but not me from edits.
