How's the word count?

So I've been doing NaNoWriMo. I don't know if it's because I just wrote another book in five weeks right before November but it honestly hasn't seemed that hard. If I miss a day then it can get very easy to fall behind. But otherwise 1667 words in one day doesn't seem to be that difficult. Which is good because if it was hard I probably wouldn't be able to do it.

How's the word count for you guys?

The biggest problem I've been having is that, just like the book I wrote right before, I have little sense of where I'm going with this story. And not only does that slow my word count but it's also an excellent way to write yourself into a corner. I think I may have to sit down and actually plot but oh, how I hate that. I don't know why but some convoluted romantic suspense with dozens of twists and turns I rarely need to plot but two people falling in love without any dead bodies? That's a toughie.

The biggest problem I've been having with my characters is that them I do have a sense of and, like so many well developed characters, they want to do their own thing. I'm having a hard time keeping them apart. They just want to go for it. And it isn't even lack of conflict. They just keep wanting to say, all these problems be danged, let's just go for it. I've given them the smackdown but like all children they will no doubt start to rebel again within the next twenty-four hours.

Anyway, how are y'all rollin with the NaNo?

Song of the Day--What is Love. (Baby don't hurt me, but I think I may have to kill you to increase my word count.)

Quote of the Day--If you neglect to recharge a battery, it dies. And if you run full speed ahead without stopping for water, you lose momentum to finish the race. -

I'm with you in the corner. I have little sense of how I want to GET where I want to go with the story because my skills at plotting are weak. Plus, I find it ack! difficult to write on when I don't like what I've written so far.

I like Sara Gruen's advice, though (the Week Three Pep Talk):

...whenever one of those scenes starts winding down, I am going to ditch it without so much as a sayonara and look for the NEXT fun scene. The transitions can wait.

I'm not going to make 50k, but I still want to feel proud of my efforts at the end of November.

Luck to us both!

I'm doing pretty good, as of right now I'm at 27,871 words so far.

Last year I Nanoed like a demon. In fact, it's my May 1, 2008 Mira release (you can see the trailer on my blog). THIS year, however, my muse is on strike...

Oh, wow. All these new visitors. I think I'm about where I should be but I sat down and plotted last night instead of writing. But I was a little ahead so I'm not going to sweat it.

Welcome Toni, Mira is my dream publisher. Did you enjoy working with them and would you again? (Gigantic second book advances aside)

Actually, Toni, I can't even get to your blog from here. I will Google you and see where I end up

I plot to the next turning point that way it feels like I'm writing novellas in between and that way I'm inching forward to the big main goal.

Oh, you're blue now! Nice!

Keep at it, chica!! Just get it done so you can move onto something else...

I know Ally. Seriously. That's my philosophy. The sooner I get this crap done the sooner I can do what I want.
